Further development - a diversity of tactics

"Operation Caesar demonstrated that an extraordinary diversity of complementary tactics can make a movement resilient to government attacks. Always complex to navigate, it was to become a deeply engrained lesson for years to come. Some pursued non-violent direct action while others threw Molotov cocktails. On the ground it confused the cops, one minute they faced old age pensioners singing songs, the next a burning barricade. In the media battle of the story, the state could not capture us in their classic trap, they could not divide us with the ‘good’ vs ‘bad’ protester stereotypes. Despite inevitable tensions, the movement kept itself together, not letting different approaches divide it. "

During the last year I've found the story of the ZAD of Notre dame des Landes incredibly inspiring, so I'm very happy to have been able to make a game about it and hopefully spread the word further. In this time of climate crisis we need all stories of victory we can find.

With the time I had available I'm quite happy with the result, but I definitely have more things I'd love to implement in a future update. As a Tower Defense I feel like the strategic depth is still not quite at the level I'd like it to be. A few more units both on the player and enemy side with different attributes, strengths and weaknesses would certainly make it more interesting.

I would also love to thematically be able to further explore the "diversity of tactics" that, from my understanding, has been so important for the struggle "against the airport and its world". As described in the quote at the beginning of this post, the movement was made up of people and groups using  a wide array of methods on the non violence to violence spectrum. The descriptions of mud thowing in the book is just so great and I felt it was a good "soft violence" level to start with and the rock throwing felt like a natural next step, but there's so much more that could be added. One of the things I'd love to expand are the barricades, of which there is currently only one. Partly because the barricades of the ZAD are iconic, but also because different kinds of human blockades are a staple of non violent activism.

Here's a few ideas I have for future additions:
Human blockades, tripods etc - possibly better for holding off vehicles or machines for longer?
Burning barricades
Molotov throwing activists - It's such a staple of riots and violent confrontations with police it's almost weird to not include it.
Tear gas - Used in excessive amounts by the cops against the activists at the ZAD. Could disable or weaken towers at specific levels. Certain activist "towers" could have resistance against it to enable counter play.

There's lots more to explore and develop, but that'll have to come at a later date. I've got another idea lined up for the climate jam in june-july, so probably in august-september at the earliest. We'll see.
